Practice Areas

  • Andrew acts for people charged with all types of criminal offences ranging up to murder and manslaughter, and serious sexual, drug and violent offending in the Youth, District and High Courts. Andrew regularly conducts jury trials in the District and High Court and appeals in the Court of Appeal.

    Andrew is an approved legal aid provider and holds PAL 4 status. If your case has PAL 3 or 4 status you can request Andrew as your Lawyer of choice.

    Andrew is also a member of the Armed Forces Defence Counsel Panel and is able to advise servicemen and women facing criminal or disciplinary proceedings in the military environment.

  • Andrew acts for athletes and organisations in many sports providing advice and representation before regional and national panels on a wide range of disciplinary, code of conduct, integrity and governance issues.

    National and regional organisations Andrew has advised include Gymnastics New Zealand, Northern Region Football, Bowls Canterbury, Canterbury Rugby League and Canterbury Rugby Union (Men and Women).

    Andrew has represented athletes from a variety of sports including basketball, weightlifting, archery, water polo, shooting, motorcross and rugby league in the Sports Tribunal of New Zealand. He is a member of the Tribunal’s Legal Assistance Panel. He has also represented an athlete in a case before the Court of Arbitration for Sport, sitting in Sydney.

    These cases have also included anti-doping and selection disputes for Olympic and Commonwealth Games and World Championships athletes.

Andrew has been appointed:

  • By Tennis New Zealand to judicial panels hearing cases in respect of code of conduct and selection disputes.

  • As a Code of Conduct Commissioner for the Christchurch Metropolitan Cricket Association.

  • To panels by various regional sporting and recreational organisations to hear complaints of a disciplinary, code of conduct and integrity nature.
